After sharing my Best of Beauty in Skincare and Haircare Category, it was time to share my makeup faves for last year. I will not be writing what the brand says about that product but will be sharing why I like that product. In my opinion, if your base is good, no matter what makeup you put on top, it will look amazing!
Base
Primers
In terms of Primers, I have been reaching out to either of two – REN Perfect Canvas Skin Finishing Serum or Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum. REN Skin Finishing Serum has a water-like consistency and it hydrates the skin. This silicone-free primer feels weightless on the skin and gives a perfect canvas to the skin for makeup. This serum slightly tightens the pores so makeup looks so much better over this.
Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum, on the other hand, is infused with 28 beneficial ingredients to nourish skin and prepare it perfectly for makeup application. This primer has an oil-like consistency and makeup glides on it like a dream. This primer is very lightweight and gives a beautiful base to the skin.
Foundation
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation has been my go-to for many years now and is featured in my yearly faves every time. This is a medium coverage foundation with a satin finish that looks really beautiful on the skin. The foundation photographs beautifully and doesn’t flashback either. I bought it a few years ago for a special occasion but now I wear it casually as well.
Another gorgeous foundation that you should know about is SUQQU Extra Rich Glow Cream Foundation which is a cream foundation but very lightweight in its consistency. This foundation gives a healthy, youthful glow to the skin and photographs beautifully. The foundation looks beautiful on all skin types. Last year, the brand expanded its shade range as well. This is one of my most-worn foundation last year.
Concealer
Maybelline Instant Anti Age Eraser Concealer is one of those affordable concealers that I have been using for brightening purposes for a few years now. This is a creamy thick formulation and a very high coverage concealer that looks beautiful on the skin and photographs beautifully as well.
Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer, on the other hand, is a thick medium to full coverage concealer which also looks beautiful on the skin. It is a weightless formulation and does a good job of covering my dark circles and imperfections. I got this one in a shade close to my skin so I could use this for concealing purposes.
Powder
Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder is the only powder I used throughout the year. It is a micro powder that is so finely milled that it melts into skin and doesn’t leave a cast. It sets my makeup and blurs any imperfections giving an airbrush finish to my skin.
Setting Sprays
Mac Prep n Prime Setting Spray is the mist I use on my skin after powdering my base. This takes away any extra powdery-ness from the skin giving it a dewy finish. I also use it on my makeup sponge just to make sure that my base looks good when applied with a sponge.
Too Faced Peach Perfect Mattifying Setting Spray, on the other hand, is my final step in the makeup after makeup enhancers are applied. This gives a mattifying finish to my makeup and takes away any extra shine from the skin. My face doesn’t look too matte either. This mist gives a velvety soft-matte look to the skin.
Makeup Enhancers
Blushes
In terms of blushes, I have 3 faves from last year. Chantecaille Aqua Blush – Gladiola has a unique formula and is perfect for when I’m on-the-go. This blush has a higher water content than most cream formulas, giving it a refreshing feel and smooth finish. ‘Gladiola’ is a cool pink hue flecked with a touch of shimmer for natural-looking, dewy finish. It looks beautiful on all skin tones and gives a healthy flush to the complexion.
Chantecaille Cheek Gelee – Vibrant is another fave from the brand. I have two shades in this formula but Vibrant is my go-to because it pops up and stays all day on my skin tone. This blush gives a healthy, radiant flush and that’s what we want. The liquid gel-cream blush glides onto the skin, creating a dewy glow that’s perfect for re-creating the glass-skin trend. The multi-tasking formula works on both the cheeks and eyes, allowing you to create a monochrome look. I took this blush with me for a couple of holidays as well last year!
In powder formulas, I’ve been reaching out to Mac Nutcracker Sweet Copper Face Compact (which sadly is not available now). The blush shade in this compact has rusty tones that look beautiful on medium to dark skin tones.
Highlighters/Illuminators
For Highlighters, I feel liquid formulas are so easy to work with plus they melt into the skin giving a glass-skin look. SUQQU Shimmer Liquid Highlighter – Pink boasts a nourishing creamy formula that blends in flawlessly for natural radiance. This highlighter is infused with natural oils from jojoba seed to sunflower seed giving skin a healthy glow.
Another gorgeous illuminator is DIOR Air Luminiser – 001 that is finely milled powder and melts into the skin giving a lit-from-within look. I bought this a few years ago and it is still one of my faves!
Face Palette
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit – Unlocked Palette is one complete face palette that got me covered when I wanted a glow from within kind of looks. This palette has setting powder, blush, bronzer, and highlighter and is perfect for travel. I took this along to India last year and used this for most occasions including party makeup looks. Hourglass powders look natural on the skin and give a sophisticated look to your makeup.
Brows
Hourglass Brow Arch – Ash is the only brow product I used last year. It is convenient and easy to use. I am not into brow pomades and have naturally fuller brows. I only have to fill a couple of sparse areas and angled powdery look pencil in brow arch makes it super quick for me. It looks natural and the spoolie on one end makes brushing easier too.
Eyeshadows
Huda Beauty Warm Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette is a compact palette with 9 warm shades in different finishes making it perfect for travel. It also comes with a good quality mirror which is a plus. The shades are great for a day time makeup look to party glam.
Eyeliner
Pixi Eye Define Waterline – Black is the only black liner I have been using last year. This eyeliner doesn’t bother my sensitive eyes plus it glides like a dream. It is creamy and sets to stay all day/night. It doesn’t make my eyes watery plus it can be removed easily as well.
Mascara
I am not a lash primer kind of person so for me, all-in-one kind of formulas work best! Hourglass Caution Extreme Lash Mascara has a double-action brush that densely packed bristles and the smooth glide formula work together to deliver volume, length, and definition.
Another all-time fave is Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara that gives intense flutter. This mascara features an hourglass brush with extra stiff bristles which will ensure even coverage of carbon black pigment. It is enriched with collagen to create thick, curled lashes. It also contains protective acacia Senegal tree extract which will hydrate the lashes to keep them in optimum condition.
Lip Products
Rimmel Lasting Finish 1000 Kisses lip liner in the shade – Spice has been my go-to for many years now. This lip liner has a creamy texture that glides on precisely on lips. The liner is long-wearing and lasts upto 8 hours. The shade Spice is just the perfect mix of rose, peach, nude and brown and compliments my skin tone so well.
Lipsticks – Charlotte Tilbury Bond Girl is my absolute fave from Charlotte Tilbury. This was the first lipstick I bought from the brand and fell in love instantly. The matte revolution formula gives a soft velvety matte look without making drying the lips. These are super comfortable on the lips and the shade bond Girl is just a beautiful sultry, toned-down berry shade that flatters every skin tone.
Perricone MD No Lipstick Lipstick is another fave. This solid-to-serum lipstick with a sheer wash of natural colour and mineral-based broad spectrum SPF 15 is best of both worlds if you love hydrating lip balms but also love some pigment. Berry is my fave shade from this line.
That’s it! I managed to cover my faves in the Beauty Category. If you haven’t checked out Skin and Hair edit, head over to this link.
If you like me to cover Fragrances Faves from last year, do let me know as well.
Until next time, Ashh xo
