The first thing we notice when we walk into anyone’s home is the smell. If it smells pleasant and inviting, you instantly feel relaxed and happy, However, if there’s any awkward smell, you might feel very uncomfortable and uneasy. This applies to our own some as well. You will notice that your mind feels very calm when your home is clean and smells beautiful. This article covers some tips to keep your home smelling its best at all times.
Clean the sinks and garbage bins. These are mainly the brooding areas for bacterias. Tackle the dirty dishes right away and don’t let them sit in the sink overnight.
Vacuum the carpets and mop the floors regularly. Use baking soda and sprinkle over the rugs as well as carpets. Let it sit for about 30 mins before vacuuming and you’ll see the magic! You can also keep a box of baking soda open in the fridge to neutralize any strong odor.
While cooking, always make sure to turn on the exhaust fan in order to suck any strong odor right away. This will prevent the spreading of the smell of strong spices, meat, or any other food across your home.
Clean the sofas and upholstery regularly. Change your bedsheets every other day or at least twice a week. Use cleaning products that smell good. For day-to-day cleaning, you should not need any heavy-duty cleaner and therefore you may make your own with dish soap and some drops of essential oils. This will be free from harsh chemicals.
I’m a huge fan of scented candles. I use them as accessories for decorating my house and I burn them whenever I have my guests or when I want to boost my mood. Even a simple soft candle can instantly uplift the ambiance. A lovely-smelling candle transforms the whole look and smell of the room. Some potent candles can even mask some odor if you have some guests without prior notice. My newest obsession is this Impressions Tobacco and Vanilla candle from Paddywax that creates a beautiful, cozy atmosphere that will make you feel great all the time. This candle has a sweet aroma from top notes of nutmeg and cinnamon followed by the middle notes of patchouli and vetiver. The intoxicating notes of vanilla, sandalwood, and tobacco add a sense of depth and mystery to the base. This candle creates a characteristic, woody aromatic scent.
Use diffusers – whether manual or automatic, diffusers keep your home smelling beautiful at all times. You may switch between the scents depending upon the season. I’m currently using Vila Hermanos Apothecary Italian Cities Palermo aroma diffuser which has notes of vanilla, guaiac wood, orchid, ylang-ylang, clove, and orange.
Bake often or if you’re not a baker, just use a pot simmer technique. For the upcoming spring season, a citrus-based concoction would be fabulous. Just throw in some fruit slices or peels like lemon, clementine peels in a large bowl full of water and put it to boil. You may also add a couple of drops of vanilla extract or your favorite herb to the mix and boil it at sim heat for as long as you want. This will fill the aroma of citrus and vanilla in your entire home. For the colder months, I prefer some deep, rich scents like vanilla, cinnamon, cardamom, etc.
Wax melts, room sprays, candles, air fresheners, or aroma diffusers – There are so many ways to home fragrance. I personally love a combination of these. I also love to burn some incense sticks in my home and open the windows to let some fresh air in for improved ventilation.
Until next time, Ashh xo
