Obviously the title of the post has got you here and everyone in this world has curiosity to find Cult fave Pixi Glow Tonic’s dupe. Honestly, PGT had set expectations of Glycolic Toners so high that finding a product that gives exact same results was not easy! Or may be we never looked closely enough!! Let’s first talk about basics… Why use an acid based toner? When we cleanse, the PH of our skin naturally gets higher, a high PH creates a breeding ground for bacteria, so by using an acid toner you’re instantly lowering your skin’s PH. The exfoliating action of the toner also means that by removing these dead skin cells, the moisturiser you then apply is going to work a lot more efficiently as it’s reaching your healthy skin and are not layered over dead skin.
Love for Pixi Glow Tonic has been real for me (and I’m sure for most of you) and getting my hands on it online has always been difficult. Finding a dupe was necessary because PGT is out of stock mostly online and secondly my skin gets used to certain products if used regularly. Just like
I was kindly sent *Bravura London’s Revitalising Ginseng Toner to try on my combination skin and I was not expecting much from this toner. I am not talking about industrial strength products, I am talking about gentle Glycolic toners that gives you well exfoliated skin and can be used for daily purpose on sensitive skin.
Revitalising Ginseng Toner is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid toner for normal to dry and/or sensitive skins. This toner is ideal to balance your skin’s PH after cleansing and to prepare your skin for treatments or your favourite moisturiser. This toner has PH of 4.5 and is Alcohol free.
This delicately scented toner is infused with botanical extracts and exfoliating AHA’s which help to tone and firm, tighten the pores and smooth the appearance of the skin, to give it a finer, softer texture. Any last traces of cleanser is removed and skin feels ultra clean.
How does it work?
Ginseng is a natural supplier of oxygen to the skin cells whilst Glycolic Acid and Ammonium Glycolate (5%) work to help the skin loosen the excess accumulation of dead skin cells, which cause the skin to appear rough, dull and aged. With regular use, skin appears fresher and more youthful. Witch hazel is widely used for its toning and astringent properties.
No let’s compare the ingredients of products under testing roof. Same ingredients are coloured in Green and written in Italics for your convenience.
Pixi Glow Tonic
Aqua, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice(Aloe Vera), Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Leaf Extract, Aesculus Hippocastanum (Horse Chestnut) Seed Extract, Glycolic Acid (5%), Ammonium Glycolate, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Hexylene Glycol (and) Fructose (and) Glucose (and) Sucrose (and) Urea (and) Dextrin (and) Alanine (and) Glutamic Acid (and) Aspartic Acid (and) Hexyl Nicotinate, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Benzoate, Biotin, Polysorbate 20, Fragrance.
Bravura London Revitalising Ginseng Toner 5% Glycolic Acid
Ingredients: Purified Water (Aqua), Aloe Vera, Witch Hazel, Horse Chestnut Extracts, Glycolic Acid (5%) and Ammonium Glycolate, Glycerin, Glucose, Fructose, Sucrose, Urea, Dextrin, Alanine, Glutamic Acid, Hexyl Nicotinate, Ginseng Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Benzoate, Biotin, Polysorbate 20, Fragrant Oil (Fragrance).
Active Ingredients: Glycolic Acid 5%, partially neutralised by Ammonium Hydroxide.
Okay, so MOST ingredients are exactly the same and the results well exfoliated and glowing skin with both the products. However Bravura London’s products have not been given much attention yet so these are easily available online. Bravura London also sells Glycolic acid in 10% concentration in case you are looking for a higher strength product than Revitalising Ginseng Toner with 5% GA.
Ginseng Toner with 5% Glycolic acid is available for £12.40 for 150ml.
Overall Results: My skin looks brighter and well exfoliated after every use. This toner prepares skin for peels and treatments as well. Definitely a very close dupe for PGT and I am so impressed with the product. I will be buying full size from the brand when I run out of this one.
Much love

25 February 2017 at 10:57 AMI’ve used both tonners and they work exactly the same for me. They don’t give me extreme results because my skin is well accustomed to more intense Acid peels but keep my skin healthy in between treatments. x

26 February 2017 at 10:28 PMGreat comparison…I have referred to this Bravura toner many times on IG and on my blog as a dupe for PGT since discovering it last year because essentially it is exactly the same. Same results on skin, mostly the same ingredients and similar scent. I’ve already gone through a bottle and have my back-up at the ready. Great for those on a budget and those looking to support smaller British brands xxx

27 February 2017 at 8:12 AMI do love the PGT, and the main point for my love is that it is one of the few acid toners that do not contain alcohol. The Bravura one is the same, and it is a little less expensive, so it goes straight on my list of things to try. I am not sure how easy it is to get outside the UK though.

4 March 2017 at 2:04 AMPixi is finally easily available again in Canada but I find the price to be really pricey. I have read a lot about Bravura on UK blogs and it definitely piqued my interest.
